As discussed in meeting today, it seems like a good idea to modify the landing page with information for a specific audience, namely people who don't know much about PiE and potential participants, since we have generally vague, all-over-the-place information right now for different people.

Suggestions:

  • replace "Join us (for staff)" with "Apply now! (for spring 2017 competition)"
  • move big facts/numbers from spring 2016 rc page to home page to sort of highlight the competition
  • More highlighting of benefits participants receive (e.g. scholarships, months of mentorship)
  • moving "Pioneers in Engineering has served more than [] students [] staff []" to /About Us
  • maybe moving schedule, or just linking it to our new amazing timeline which will be on the Spring 2016 RC page
  • Having "Join PiE staff" below the competition information and link to descriptive join pie staff page
  • moving "Outreach/ Development" to the "Join PiE staff page" (probably don't need "Competition"?)
  • maybe getting rid of news because if people wanted that they would go look for it in /blog page
  • Anything else?

Whoa!!! This is great, Kevin! I'm super impressed. :) I'll add my thoughts as well (and anyone else interested should too), but this is a really great start, thanks!!

Could look at the FIRST website to see how they portray their organization (for home page) and also how they portray their competition (for comp page): FLL website and FRC website.
We could similarly implement these things:

  • Home page: clearly defined portals for students, educators, sponsors, and volunteers/staff
  • Making flashier, bolder, brighter designs
  • Modifying spring comp and start team page to showcase more of opportunities and scholarships, etc.
