Socket.io Chat App

A simple chat application built using Socket.io, React and Node.js.

Note: To chat between different users, ensure to create users in different incognito tabs or different devices.

Features

  • Real-time chat functionality.

  • Session based user management.

  • Unread messages indicator.

  • Persistent messages.

  • Group Chat functionality.

  • Push Notification for new messages.

  • Add Redis for scaling Socket.io servers.

Installation

  • Make sure you have Node.js installed on your machine.
  • Clone the repository:
git clone https://github.com/pirateIV/socketchat
  • Navigate to the project directory:
cd socketchat
  • Install the depencies:
npm install
  • Run Server and Client concurrently, using this command:
npm run dev:server
  • Start app at specified port.
