Thanks a lot Leo! Looking forward to your findings! It would be great to update us on the issue of increased Bitswap requests that we were seeing a few months back. When you get some figures showing the situation, please post them here too. |

High Request Activity from 2021-06-12 to 2021-07-24We saw a drastic increase in number of messages and number of wantlist entries from 2021-06-12 to approx. 2021-07-24. Wantlist Entries Received/s: Wantlist Messages Received/s: Notably, we received much larger messages than usual, i.e., they contain more entries than usual. AnalysisI did some analyses on the traces collected for one weekend (I believe it was from 06-18 to 06-21, but not 100% sure anymore) due to the size of the traces. Daily Unique Requested CIDsWe're always calculating how many new unique CIDs we're seeing per monitor per day.
=> They request old content? Maybe, or maybe 2M "new" CIDs, but.. meh. Unclear. Number of Requests by Peer IDNumber of request entries (excluding CANCELs) by peer ID, top 100 or so.
Information about Top Requesting PeersIP addresses and agent versions for top 25-ish requesting peers.
Requested CIDsNumber of requests per CID

Hello!
I'm Leo, currently doing my PhD in Berlin on a bunch of things P2P.
We've been running some infrastructure to monitor data requests on BitSwap, see this v1 preprint on arXiv which will soon be updated with a new version.
Unfortunately, the interactive dashboard-esque results are not public (yet) and I'm still in the process of setting up some stuff to generate at least static images for public use somewhere.
Nevertheless, I occasionally talk about interesting recent events on BitSwap during one of the Demo Days or in the Slack channel.
In order to make that a bit more public and accessible, I'm opening this issue/discussion in which I'll post noticeable events or other quirks I've observed :)
