This is a nice example, and I have been experimenting at https://github.com/higgi13425/quarto_poster.git
and realizing that I don't know much about how to control

  1. size of logo (too big right now)
  2. Length, line breaks in title
  3. Title font and font size
  4. Why does title break there - not go full width?
  5. Put a background color behind the title/author/affiliations block
  6. Add an image on the right side of this block (logo on left side)
  7. Larger sizes, up to 72 in wide, 42 in tall in US, taller in euro zone
  8. Author font, font size, italics, font color, and line breaks
  9. Multiple author affiliations (diff univ, department, divison)
  10. Having a line break between authors and affiiliations
  11. Turn off roman numerals for sections - Background, Methods
  12. Control alignment - left, center, right
  13. Control underlines, bold
  14. control number of columns, column width, space between columns
  15. Add superscripts for references
  16. Control body font size, font

What is the best resource for these questions?

thanks,
Peter

Hi @cderv -
I have been working through this list, and making steady progress, especially once I found the typst-template.typ file. The current version is at - https://github.com/higgi13425/quarto_poster.git - and you can see the result if you click on poster.pdf.
I am still trying to:

  1. Add an image at the top right (univ-image) - but it does not seem to be working. I think I am close with univ-image, but it is not showing up at render. Any guess on what I am doing wrong? column size/scale? something else?
  2. Also, possibly unrelated - why does the template use both institutional-image and univ-image? would this be better to clean this up to a single version? how (and where) would I do this?
  3. Sometimes I would like to be able to make the title and authors into a rounded rectangle like the footer, with a maize stroke, blue fill, and a maize colored font. It seems that this is largely doable for the footer with the existing template. But I am not seeing how to make this happen. Any ideas?
    thanks for your help!
    Peter

I don't know any of that without looking myself into some docs. Here are some hints on how I would find answers to this:

First, you may have better change of finding answers by asking community at: https://github.com/quarto-dev/quarto-cli/discussions/categories/q-a . This issue thread will only be read by us. Other community Q&A place can be helpful too.

For any typst question on how to do, you should work from the .typ file (use keep-typ: true to have it), play in typst.app and ask question in Typst community in how to do something in typst. Then you can see how to adapt for your template.

it is not clear to me if you looked at it or not, but we have an adaptation for poster template at https://github.com/quarto-ext/typst-templates/tree/main/poster
You can see how it works and what we have done.

General rule, if your question is about .qmd and Quarto, you can find answers in our community by asking there. If your question is how to modify my template to do X and Y in typst directly, then you'll have better chance in Typst own communities (their discord maybe ?)

Hope it helps

Thanks! Started with the NCSU template, and added/modified. Still not quite there, but 70% of the way with edits to the typst-template.typ file. Sounds like next steps are some typst comunity help.
