The elsarticle.cls file we provide (https://github.com/quarto-journals/elsevier/blob/main/_extensions/elsevier/elsarticle.cls) is very old.

It's version 3.3 from 2020-11-20, while the last version on CTAN is 3.4c.

This would probably be much easier if elsarticle would have a github repo and we could just add it as a submodule.

Notice that version 3.4c fixes all the errors we have been having with the nonatbib option, and thus we should update
