ROCK 5B Network ADB access over Ethernet does not work in Tablet firmware

In the current TABLET firmware of Android 12 for the ROCK 5B, I try to enable "Network ADB" access in developer tools. This does not work and says "Connect to wifi first"

I don't have wifi on this device, but I do have working Ethernet connection instead. I'd like to be able to enable ADB access over the network cable.

Affected version requires WIFI for network ADB to be enabled. ADB does not work with Ethernet network connection.

This is still an issue with the latest version:

Please enable the ADB over network option for the built in Ethernet.

Any news on this? Is there a work around, e.g. by modifying the image after transfer to SD-Card or eMMC?

Shipping a software option (ADB over WIFI) on a device which has no support for WIFI makes zero sense. And telling customers to buy a USB WIFI dongle for a board with perfectly well working Ethernet makes no sense either.
