Pivotal Cloud Foundry Cloud Native Developer Workshop

Please join us at Pivotal for a half-day hands-on workshop to introduce concepts and development practices surrounding the use of Pivotal Cloud Foundry. This workshop provides attendees with the concepts and experience needed to work with and deploy applications on Pivotal Cloud Foundry. Attendees will gain experience in pushing apps to Pivotal Cloud Foundry, accessing logs, scaling and will explore topics directly related to the design and running of cloud-native applications, including metrics, high availability and blue-green deployments.

Prerequisites

Optional Prerequisites

  • Git CLI installed (https://git-scm.com/downloads)
  • Java 1.8 installed, this workshop was tested with “1.8.0_91”. It may work with JDK 1.7 BUT has not been tested

  • What is Pivotal Cloud Foundry (and Cloud Native with PCF)
  • Using Pivotal Web Services (Applications Manager, Spaces, Services, CLI)
  • Cloning a project using GIT
  • Installing the CF CLI Tool
  • Creating a MySQL service from the marketplace
  • Deploying archive using CF CLI and a manifest file binding to a MySQL service
  • Viewing an Application in Application Manager
  • Viewing Application Metrics
  • How to interact with PWS using the CF CLI
  • Testing Application High Availability
  • Blue - Green Deployment (Zero Downtime)
