Kiss configuration and funcionality

Hello,
I tried to activate KISS internally and it works perfectly with applications such as Pinpoint APRS, especially for messaging.
I wanted to ask if the implementation of the KISS protocol inside the igate is complete and therefore manageable as a tnc in lora via RF. That is: is it possible to exchange data (not only APRS) between two igates via RF? Is there documentation of tests done? What does it mean: Accept own frames via KISS in the configuration?

Hello, I am reporting on this thread some tests hoping to involve others, if the topic is of interest. Also for further developments by the author Ricardo.

First test performed: installed two igates not connected to the internet but listening to each other in RF. By connecting a software terminal (QTermTCP) in KISS to the first igate via IP you can easily send messages/text to the second terminal (and vice versa) always connected via IP/KISS to the second igate lora. Via RF. It is an interesting opportunity for testing for distances, in emergency situations where you need a short exchange of information with very little hardware.

Hello. That's nothing new, that exactly how APRS works so RF data exchange and yes - it's good for emergency. In Poland we are using mainly RF on different frequency 434.855 MHz at 1200 speed where frame is about 600ms long, we can fit a lot of stuff via RF. We are using good antenna, good hardware to achive good coverage. 99% users of APRS want to be visible only on the map but you don't need any trackers, igates for that, just turn on the APRSDroid or any other app and send data directly... What you wrote is normal usage, there is nothing extraordinary here. It's like you are reinventing the wheel. Such a small detail: if you have "IGate" disconnected from the internet or you don't throw packets into APRSIS then it's not IGate anymore :) Probably that was your mental shortcut

Hi Damian, you probably didn't understand the topic in question. We all know very well that APRS can work well in emergency situations, and it is absolutely not the appearance on the map or not that is the topic of discussion. What can (at least by some) be considered interesting (and useful) is the use of two igates (call them what you want, even digipeaters are fine, it is only useful to identify the type of device that is not a tracker of what we are talking about) to transmit as LoRa technology a series of information that have nothing to do with APRS specifically. So for 90% two igates (or digi) on two high altitude positions operate in APRS but when there is a need it is possible to do a point-to-point exchange of data using the same devices, therefore between two TNCs in Kiss. ​​Imagine an image/drawing, a list of essential materials, etc. Even a chat between two stations that do not listen to each other directly. So without changing anything except the use of the devices, but at that moment they will not operate in the APRS standard.

Maybe I don't understand because I don't see any problem with that, this must work just like that. If you have two station and you want to do point-to-point then two stations must hear each other so you can just send the data (like messages, etc.). I don't see the moment when any problem appears. If you want to do any non-APRS stuff then sory but I think this shouldn't be done here. You can send images, files via APRS (I think that Ricardo tried that). I also don't understand what you mean by "chat between two stations that do not listen to each other directly" - if you want to do that offline then you need a digi between and then send packets via that digi. I don't know if I understand correctly, it would be good if you explained it. However, I look at it from the APRS level because that is APRS software
