I've been having continued problems over the last couple months which seem to be due to QuoteFix. After restarting Mail, everything works well, but after a few minutes, replaying to email produces a blank subject line. Everything else is fine, although it seems headers in general are also affected. The usual To: and Reply-To: lines are missing from the display of the email even before replying. But the Subject is there, and only disappears after hitting reply. The Subject line in the reply is blank.

System: macOS (Sierra) 10.12.3 (16D32)

The issue is still present with the latest QuoteFix (alpha 5 for Sierra).

QuoteFix is configured as follows:

  • Enabled
  • Quotefixing disabled
  • Customized Attributions:
    • Replying:
      • Enable
      • Increase quote level
        ${message.from.name} on ${message.sent.strftime("%A %b %d %Y %H:%M:%S")}:
    • Forwarding:
      • Enable
      • Increase quote level
      • Remove attribution
        ${message.from.name} on ${message.sent.strftime("%A %b %d %Y %H:%M:%S")}:
  • Advanced:
  • Allow advanced templating

Other mail bundles installed:

  • GPG Tools
  • MailHub
  • NoFlaggedMailbox

My guess is that your issue is being caused by an interaction between QF and one of your other plugins (plugins in Mail are unsupported by Apple so they rely on undocumented features to do their magic; however, this cán cause conflicts if you use multiple plugins).

You could try and see if the problem is solved if you use different combinations of plugins. If so, it's up to you to decide which one you want to keep :)

I will test different permutations. Are you saying this is a definite WONTFIX or shall I figure out which interaction is actually causing the problem?

It's not a definitive WONTFIX, but my experience with these issues is that it's most likely a CANTFIX. These types of conflicts are very difficult to debug and fix (certain combinations of plugins may work for person A, but fail for person B, for instance).

One thing you can also do is enable debugging in QF (it's in the advanced preferences) and have the Console app running while you run Mail, perhaps that may yield some clues as to what may be causing the problem. I'd be happy to work around issues if possible.

I'll do what I can. Thanks.
