As a TL (Rory Y) in GSU I would like to optimise the cherry picking of low occupancy plates for positive and negative picks on the Tecan robots so that we can reduce turn around times.

Background
For the RVI pipeline we have ~70 source plates that will require >1 run on a Tecan to fill a destination plate due to a large number of low occupancy source plates and we’d like to pick two different types of sample into two separate destination plates (positives and negatives).

After we have picked the ‘positives’ out of a source plate, we then need to pick the ‘negatives’ into different destination plate. Since a Tecan bed can only hold ~20 plates at a time, the destination plates will require multiple runs each.

To speed up the work, while we run the first pick of the 'positives', we're interested in being able to start picking the 'negatives' out of the other ~50 plates that are sat idle. However, that relies on the pre-generated hit picking files arranging the plates in a way that facilitates this - i.e. Run 1 of the positives cannot overlap with any of the plates used in run 1 of the 'negatives'

Knowing how the LIMS generated picking file orders the plates which get picked in each run would enable us to schedule this optimally.

Acceptance Criteria

  • Provide Rory Y with the knowledge of how plates are ordered (if they are).
  • If plates are not ordered - create user stories to either order them or help optimise the process in some other way.
