Would it be possible to incorporate a function to turn on the back light for low light conditions?

While I understand the usecase, I don't think this needs to be solved within this SDK. You can try a second ANE which controls the flash for you. For Eg. http://airnativeextensions.com/extension/com.distriqt.Camera#reference this extension can turn on the flash on device. can you try to see if this solves your need.

Thank you for your reply.

I have tried a separate ane specifically to use the back light in conjunction with your ane, however, it seems as though the light is connected to the usage of the camera so cannot use both at the same time, hence why I suggested the incorporation of it.

Would it be difficult to implement?
