On OS X 10.10.3, the emoji that are displayed are a Simpsons shade of yellow: 👂👉. Users might want the ability to specify a different skin tone, which was added in 10.10.3:

👂🏻👂🏼👂🏽👂🏾👂🏿
👉🏻👉🏼👉🏽👉🏾👉🏿

A screenshot, in case you can't see those characters:

Good thing I posted the screenshot of what that looked like in the text box, because GitHub has no idea what to do with these:

I would love the option to not get that pop up at all.

That could be nice. Or some more subdued simple vector icons that you could draw at run time. I often have people tap me on the shoulder to talk to me, then ask why there's a giant ear on my computer. I like it, but to each their own.

I swapped out the emojis in lines 105 and 107 of PKPianobarController.m as follows:

Seems to make more visual sense that way.

@armccoy Could I remove the entire block, starting at L104, to disable the emojis (emojies?) entirely?

@alexfornuto I don't see why not. You may also want to remove the code below it that triggers the BezelWindow.
