The application is available in .AppImage and -setup.exe-formats, but not as an archive, which you just need to unpack to an arbitrary folder and run the .exe.
π― Expected Behaviour
In the Releases section, files like desktop-dimmer-(β¦)-postable.zip are available for download
Why?
In all cases where there is no need to change the Windows File Explorer context menu items, change the functionality of other installed applications, or install services that are absolutely necessary for the functionality of the application, I prefer to use portable versions of applications. They have a number of pros and cons compared to installed applications, and for me the pros of portable applications outweigh their cons.
Updating the portable version should be possible by simply unpacking the archive downloaded from Github into the application folder with confirmation of overwriting the existing files without losing user settings.
