Using a supported version?

  • I have searched searched open and closed issues for duplicates.
  • I am using Signal-Desktop as provided by the Signal team, not a 3rd-party package.

Overall summary

Sometimes Desktop app stops receiving new messages (or maybe it’s receiving them just don’t shows new messages) until I close the app and restart it. Then it crashes without any error message shortly after it’s been launched (3-5 s) and closes itself. And when I open it after that, updates missing messages and it works fine again.

This sometimes happens just after I launch the app and sometimes seemingly at random, after some time running fine. I don't seem to have any internet connection issues at the time this bug happens.

I reported it in beta bug thread first before it happened also on stable release. You can find one more debug log here https://community.signalusers.org/t/beta-feedback-for-the-upcoming-desktop-7-27-release/63191/3

Steps to reproduce

Happens somewhat randomly but:

  1. Have some unread messages on your phone
  2. Start desktop app
  3. The bug might happen now or...
  4. Leave Desktop app running and have someone sent you some messages hoping the bug occurs

Expected result

The app receives new messages.

Actual result

At some point Desktop client stops receiving new messages even through Android app receives them fine, until the app is restarted. Then the app crashes and needs to be restarted again. No visible error messages.

Update:
This bug seems to affect mainly one particular group chat. While other chats can receive new messages, this one chat requires restarting desktop app (and previously mentioned crash) to start receiving again.
