Do we want to start from the geosci-esque style site (http://disc2017.geosci.xyz/)? The tech stack is simpler that the current site, which would lower the barrier to maintenance / other contributions.

P.S. I also really like @leouieda's personal site: https://www.leouieda.com/ and it is markdown, which would be much more inviting for potential contributors

For a project website, there are advantages to using the same stack used for the project docs. That way contributors don't have to learn two different systems for updating the website and contributing to the docs. That said, I do love Urubu. It's a lot simpler and more flexible than sphinx or pelican. But you have to build out many of the templates yourself (it doesn't really have themes). If that's what you want to do, then I highly recommend it.
