Can I use my own domain as my Bluesky handle? says:

Threads.net has one foot in the fediverse, but doesn't (yet?) support direct messages AFAICT. Thus, having added my DID to DNS, I can browse successfully to https://bsky.app/profile/example.com, but all links on the Bluesky side point to https://bsky.app/profile/example.com.threads.net.ap.brid.gy.

Could there be some other way of triggering a username update in this situation?

I realise, "Tell Meta to implement DMs", and "Don't use Threads for this" are both valid answers, here.

Threads isn't the only fediverse software that doesn't support DMs; there are others that also don't. We're considering a web-based UI for this kind of stuff too, #1680. In the meantime, feel free to post or send me your Threads account and domain, I'll see what I can do.
