Static methods not being found in VSCode

Getting "Non static method 'for' should not be called statically."

Laravel: 9
PHP: 8.1
Laravel-query-builder: 5.0

Not sure what I could be doing wrong. I just installed the package and tried using it and VsCode started barking at me. Also receiving a 500 error in my test saying the same.

Laravel: 9.0.1 (to be specific)

use Spatie\QueryBuilder\QueryBuilder;

$users = QueryBuilder::for(User::class)
            ->allowedFilters(['first_name', 'last_name', 'email'])
            ->orderBy('last_name')
            ->paginate();

I originally thought it was a VSCode error but like I said, running tests also give me the same error as a 500 code. Also I am trying to implement into an already working application so, database has already been properly configured.

Can you find out what exception causes this response? A 500 status code is a default response if an unhandled exception is raised somewhere in the request-response cycle.

Here is the entire index method in UserController

This is quite odd as the class clearly contains the static method you are trying to call:

laravel-query-builder/src/QueryBuilder.php

Have you, by any chance, edited the QueryBuilder.php file? You could try deleting the vendor directory and calling composer install again.

Ahhh I see what happened. Honest mistake.

So, I have a php formatter for VsCode. phpfmt.

I opened the QueryBuilder class previously just to take a look around, as a force of habit, I hit CMD+S. That for some reason removed the static keyword. Your suggestion of deleting the vendor directory and calling composer install again worked.
