Hi, I'm Daniel from Prague, Czech Republic. I love everything about computers, programming and open source. While I have been writing code since I was around 15 years old, I like to say that I've become a programmer only once I started contributing to open source, because that's when many amazing people dedicated their precious free time to review my code, give me hints about how to improve my programming skills and mentor me. This is where my love for free software and open source was born.

I've been doing free software ever since then. I've been contributing to @KDE, one of the biggest free software projects, for over a decade, making lots of friends along the way and constantly learning from the best and brightest minds in the industry. While my contributions to KDE have slowed down in the recent years as my day job and my family take up most of my time, I'm still trying to stay involved and contribute every now and then.

I'll never stop doing free software, though. In addition to my work on KDE, I have other side projects that I work on - both for my own benefit (to learn) and for benefit of everyone else who find my work useful. Most recently I've been working on QCoro, a library to ease using C++20 coroutines with Qt.

Professionally, I started my career at Red Hat, co-maintaining KDE in RHEL and Fedora, then I moved to @KDAB, a Qt, C++ and OpenGL consultancy company. After that I went to work on network security products in @Avast and nowadays I'm leading a small team that develops and maintains high-performance backends at GEN Digital. I've been also teaching HTML, CSS and Python introductory courses for @czechitas.

I would love to be able to dedicate more time to my open source work again, spending more time on other projects like QCoro and maybe contributing to other projects as well. At the same time, I still need to support my family. Github sponsorship is a great way to say "Thank you" if you find my work useful, and give a little boost to my motivation :-)

Thank you very much!

@danvratil

Reaching 10 sponsors means that my work is both meaningful and appreciated. It would be a huge motivation for me to do even more cool open source work.
