I'm Darryl, a 24-year-old frontend dev and UI/UX designer building informative, delightful digital experiences for the decentralized web and beyond! 🎉

In 2021, I chose to forgo my computer science degree and dedicate my self-taught web development + UI/UX skills to the blockchain / crypto / DeFi / web3 revolution. 🤝

Instead of building within opaque, extractive, short-lived walled gardens like most of my peers in TradFi and Big Tech (🤮), I'm contributing to a flourishing ecosystem of computational infrastructure, open financial primitives & public goods that will last humanity for centuries to come. 🌼

There's a new Internet on the rise... 🌐

It's a spectrum of specialized peer-to-peer computer networks, operating under predictable, programmable, auditable rules; referencing common knowledge and publicly accessible datasets; and secured by incentive systems grounded in math, cryptography and economic game theory. 🔐

Together, these networks make up web3 – efficient, decentralized, permissionless, credibly neutral infrastructure that promises to upgrade every aspect of 21st century society for the better. 🚀

Finance, governance, work, education, trade, resource allocation, property ownership, art, music, culture, identity, knowledge, reputation, trust and online social interaction are being reinvented as we speak as part of this unprecedented, unstoppable wave of innovation! 🤩

...but there's a huge UX problem. 🫠

Web3 is an incredible, pluralistic ecosystem by design, but it's growing exponentially more complex by the day. Endless technical tradeoffs take place at every layer of the web3 stack... 👀

^{consensus mechanisms, execution architectures, client software, smart contract langauges, token standards, governance models, oracle networks, storage solutions, messaging protocols, indexing layers, bridging networks, layer-2s, wallet apps, account abstractions, naming systems, block explorers, portfolio trackers, frontend frameworks...} oh my! 🙀

There's a lot of innovation at the frontier, which also means it's fraught with lots of complexity, misinformation, hacks, scams, and just plain bad UX. 😵‍💫

Looks like society won't be benefitting from these amazing, transparent, data-driven, privacy-preserving web3 technologies anytime soon... 💔

...unless people like me create intuitive, robust, educational user interfaces that properly reflect the state of the system, bridge knowledge gaps, communicate possibilities, abstract away the annoyances, and help regular, everyday people like you discover, use, and appreciate how it all works! 🤩

I have over ten years of experience creating websites, apps, developer tools, visualizations, games, and digital art with JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and their various incarnations. (Svelte + TypeScript + vanilla CSS is my personal favorite front-end stack.) 🛠️

For me, frontend dev is the perfect blend of creative and technical skills! I can implement existing designs with precision or make things up as I go, always focusing heavily on aesthetics, responsiveness, accessibility & reusable design systems. ✨

I'm endlessly curious about new technologies and am regularly involved in hackathons, grant work, and other initiatives within various open source, blockchain, DeFi and web3 communities. 🧠

As with anything at the intersection of UX and new technology, finding the right level of UI/UX abstraction is a tricky business that requires plenty of time, care, experimentation & iteration. 🧑🏻‍🔬
