Are you referring to split-domain setups that some fediverse instances have? Such as having @[email protected] be what is federated and using the front end client itself via sublinks.example.com so the base domain can still be used for other things?

@gaviscapes no this is literally hosting the inboxes on a separate subdomain. So your federation service could be fedi.discuss.online/inbox for example

But your idea would be great to add.
