Describe the question

How could I launch a shell running in a new terminal instance from yazi?

I come from ranger and I used to map commands to shell -t to launch shells in a new window.

One use case: I use lazygit and I want to launch it from my fs TUI without loosing access to it (I want to have both TUIs open at the same time so that I can switch back and forth as I work).

In ranger, I would have a kbd mapped to shell -t lazygit.

I do not know how to replicate this in yazi and I would appreciate the help.

Note: I know how to open a shell with shell "$SHELL" --block but I want to have that shell open in a new terminal instance in order to retain access to yazi while the shell is running.

I am sure that there must be a way to write this in Lua and create a plugin, but I don't know Lua and I thought that there might be a much simpler way, similar to shell -t in ranger.

This does indeed answer my question (thanks!) but it doesn't actually reproduce shell -t in ranger because it does not launch the new terminal in CWD and it doesn't take into account the settings of the terminal yazi is running in such as font size (it uses the default terminal settings).

Is there any way to reproduce exactly the behaviour of shell -t in ranger? If not, could I suggest this as a feature request?

Actually, my mistake.

I think that your answer does the same as shell -t and that you are fully answering my question. It just happens that alacritty works as I am used to, but wezterm doesn't (and I just changed terminal).

And looking at wezterm start --help, I was able to replicate the default behaviour of alacritty (use CWD and custom font size).
