Structure this repo as a package

Currently when working with this repo, it becomes necessary to work in the same directory because imports doesn't work otherwise - this inturn pollutes this repo when comnitting anything. A better way for developing and using will be to structure it as a minimal package, so that imports work gracefully.

fully agreed. I would suggest using the astropy-package template.
