How can I have different names for the executable and the Menu app name?

I want to use some special characters on the name displayed on the menu but when I change package > productName, changes both the executable and the menu name and the compilation fails at creating the installer because of special characters.

Hmm, that may be tricky to solve since ō is not part of the codepage we use by default. Changing for what productName would be used shouldn't matter here because afaik, the codepage is applied everywhere we (could) use productName. I saw people on stackoverflow saying that you can just set it to utf-8 instead of 1252 but the wix docs have a warning about that https://wixtoolset.org/docs/v3/overview/codepage/ (at the same time, wix 4 uses utf-8 by default - still warning about limited support though).

Not sure how to proceed here tbh.

Sorry for the delay on my answer, I would like to have the option to have separated names for the installer, the app name (the name that shows on Windows Menu) and the process name.

Applied to my case, it would look like this:

• Nōto as the app name
• noto.exe as executable name
• And the installer one I don't care too much about, it would be right Nōto, Noto, noto,...

I hope sharing my use case can be useful!

This is the problem actually. The installer is what registers it to the system and in the start menu etc, so if it doesn't support it, it'll get tricky.

I guess we'll need a config to change the codepage - would you mind opening a feature request for this mentioning this discussion?

For anyone finding solution for this, you might want to define custom wix fragment.

Default configuration file is in here. You can copy the content, replace {{product_name}} with the application name you want, and save it wherever you want. Set tauri.bundle.windows.wix.template as path to the file, then you are good to go.
