Some additional details may be helpful so that whoever works on this will have a better idea of where to start.
-What manufacturer and model of controller?
-What version of which operating system?
-In what situations does the controller not work?
-Are there any situations in which the controller does work?
-Does the game show any recognition of the controller, such as controller UI icons?
-Are controller button bindings showing up in settings?

I have tried to use Logitech Gamepad F310 on Win10, STR version 1.3.2.
This gamepad has a hardware switch between XInput and DirectInput mode.

In XInput mode controller worked with Skyrim and STR without any configuration changes.
Note that you still need mouse/keyboard join the server, current UI is not controller friendly.

In DirectInput mode controller doesn't work with STR neither with pure Skyrim on my system.
Attempt to manually map controller in Skyrim settings fails, because Skyrim do not detect this input.
There are multiple 3rd party solution that can map keyboard keys and mouse controls to a gamepad or convert DirectInput to XInput.
I tested one of this solution and it worked with Skyrim and STR without issue.

@Diavolo2023 Do you use any 3rd party SW that affect mouse/keyboard/controller input? Could you provide more info about your controller and system?

I just use the controller configured with the x360 software. The game configuration is in the root folder of the game it works very well I have no problem. But when I launch Together it's Just the walking mouse.

@Diavolo2023 What is the manufacturer and model of controller you're using with xbox 360 controller emulator? What version of Xbox360ce are you using? What version of Skyrim Together are you using? It is important that we are given relevant information and version numbers up front, especially the use of third party software - this is true for all software you ask for help with, not just Skryim Together.

For example, Xbox360ce version 3 uses DirectInput, which stenliis has stated does not work, unless you place the program in the same folder as the executable you're starting the game from. If you followed the instructions in the wiki for Mod Organizer 2 AND you're using Xbox360ce version 3, then you'll need to run Xbox360ce from the same folder as skyrimtogether.exe and have the xinput DLL files in there as well.

Xbox360ce version 4 uses a virtual controller that interacts with SkyrimTogether in a way that may not be supported at this time. Someone else may be able to provide detail on that which I do not have. If you are currently trying to get this working with version 4, then try using version 3 in the manner described above. Be sure to follow the version 3 instructions given by that Xbox360ce.

Hello,

I've been trying to connect using my PS5 and PS4 controllers but to no avail. The controllers work when I open the regular .exe, just not when I'm using the STR .exe. I've tried opening it several different way: from within and without vortex, both as admin and not. I've also tried opening the game through skse_loader and I'm able to use the controllers there. Just not when I'm running the STR. I've tried running with only the bare minimum necessary requirements to run STR and removed all other mods but still unable to use neither my PS5 nor my PS4 controllers. The controllers are the ones that came with console so not a 3rd-party manufacturer.

  1. Skyrim Special Edition
  2. STR 1.3.2
  3. SKSE64 2.2.3
  4. Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Patch 4.2.8
  5. I'm not using any specific profiles from my controllers. I've just plugged them in and they work.
  6. Driver version provided for PS5 controller is 10.0.19041.2251
  7. Driver version provided for PS4 controller is 10.0.22000.1219

Let me know if there's any further details I need to provide.
