Getting ~40GB/s instead of 50+ in the example. Curious why #6
Comments
I would guess it's your motherboard or the specific GPU brand. I think it was a surprise to many that the interconnect went up to 50GB bidirectionally when most thought of it as just edging across 8 Gen4 PCIe lanes. |
What motherboard and CPU do you have? Or do they sit on a PCIe backplane with a proper switch? |
1 is directly on the motherboard, and 2 are extended with a Pcie gen4 x16 connector. I have a Pro WS W790-ACE With a W-2400 family processor |
It is interesting. And can you try only 2 4090s, to check if the bandwidth keeps the same as 3 4090s. And also here is some technical supports from Asus for PCIE bifurcation, you can also check https://www.asus.com/support/faq/1037507/. |
I already, followed that. It was showing x8 before. But the nvtop shows x16 for all. I saw on another issue it was caused by the driver potentially. Do you know which one is used in the tests? |
Can this be used for other models in the 40x0 series? |
i have a wrx80e sage and threadripper 3995wx 64 core and this is my results. Bidirectional P2P=Enabled Bandwidth Matrix (GB/s) for you this is the bit of important information LnkSta: Speed 2.5GT/s (downgraded), Width x16 ifg i run the test again with the gpu in use it will be different and if it still says downgraded in your case then your motherboard is doing something weird you may need to adjust the retimers timing her is an artical discussing it https://forum.level1techs.com/t/memory-timings-asus-wrx80e-sage/170730 |
sorry wrong link above https://forum.level1techs.com/t/help-with-wrx80e-sage-se-render-server/190742/2 |
Is PCIe switch required to enable P2P communication? |

Describe the bug
The P2P is working, but i get 40 GB/s.
I'm curious why this is, do i need to overclock?
All slots are running GEN 4@16x
PS. Thx for this driver team tinygrad🙌
