In my Proton Mail account I don't use any folders.
I manage all my emails with only three tags:
• important (long term emails: what matters)
• disposable (max 4 weeks, afterwards or important or trash bin)
• pending (waiting for a decision, max two days or trash bin)
Trash bin automatically delete emails after 30 days (expiration time).
How it works
Every time an email arrives it automatically gains the "pending" label. If I do nothing in the next 48 hours, it will automatically end up in the trash where it will be deleted after 30 days.
If instead the email is important I assign the label "important" that has no time limit.
If I move it to "disposable" I will have extended the 48 hours of pending status and I will have 4 weeks to consult it (useful for magazines obtained via newsletter).
At the expiration of the 4 weeks, if I have not labeled it as "important", it will gain the "pending" label again. If I do nothing it will follow the usual procedure of deletion by expiration.
