Question

Hello,

I am using the Android app (always latest version) combined with the Chromium extension in Vivaldi (Chromium browser, always latest version). Everything is working fine so far alone one annoying thing: push messages take really long to arrive! When I press the keyboard shortcut in the browser and unlock my phone, I am 2-3 times faster opening the app to read the code manually as waiting for the push message on the home screen.

Sure, this might be related to several reason, but there are not issues with anything on my PC/smartphone currently and I have the feeling, other notifications are a lot quicker. We are still talking »just« about several seconds, but there is no use for the easier push with the confirmation button when I can open the app much quicker, right? Even though I, of course, would use the push and prefer to do so.

When I open the app, the push mostly arrives immediately so it does not seems to be delayed by network or something (and everything here is really quick – 4G/5G and 1.000 MBit/s internet which all works fine also).

The only possible reason I found is, that the app itself seem to delay the push notifications when the code is close to expiration (red colored countdown timer) which maybe makes sense; but I am still much quicker to confirm or type it anyway.

Any idea how I could improve the situation?

Best regards,

Tim

Hey @LinguaOccultus,

do you use the Android Energy Saving Mode?

And have you checked, that the background usage for energy is "on"?

These are often problems with push notifications.

Let me know, if this works or not.

Thank you.

Greeting.

Hello,

thanks for the suggestions!

Nope, none of those and I know what you are referring to. They do have the same drawbacks for messengers, for example, which is why I do not use them. There are other/better ways for energy saving.

In most cases, I do have only to wait 5-10 seconds, but that still is annoying as you can unlock your phone with some methods instantly and then sit there a wait what somehow collides with the whole idea – I have mostly opened the app and typed in manually quicker.

However, opening the app mostly makes a notification instantly appear inside the app and also the usual push notification alltogether which seems quite strange already.

I also have became aware, that the notifications seem to wait when the timeout is nearly reached (red countdown numbers) which makes the time until somrthing happens even longer.

While everything else is working fine and all other notifications come in as expected I am currently quite sure this is not on my end – its a Google Pixel 4a (5G) with Android 14 by the way.

Best regards!

Hey @LinguaOccultus,

thanks for your detailed response.

When you have checked the points I Sayed to you, I would suggest that you try out the following points:

  • Do you have checked, that's all permissions are set up to "allowed"? e.g. Notifications or background usage for network is allowed?

  • Is your app version on the newest Stand? ( Version: 5.4.6 )

  • Have you tried it, to reconnect the app with the browser extension?

When the points if I Sayed, no change had, I would say you can reinstall the app and setup these completely new.

You can give me feedback if it works or not. I would interested.

Thank you.

Greetings.

  • All permissions the app was asking for are approved – I won't get any notifications if not, right?
  • The app is currently of version 5.4.6 and automatically updated through the Play Store as all others are too.
  • Yes, I did. I also use it on my notebook aswell with the very same outcome so I guess, it is more the Android side which causes this.
  • Reinstalling the app on the Android side is also done as an obvious first step, but also brought the same outcome. I do not think this is a simple installation or cache issue or something like that.
