Per this issue:

I think it's best to move the EC2 HTTPD instance to a private subnet.
We would then have:

  • public ALB
  • public target group
  • private EC2

Currently the ALB and target group are already public, so the only change would be for the EC2 instance.

@hargitayjpl : Would this impact the terraform you are working on that deploys this EC2? Any concerns about that?
