Keyboard shortcuts only work when menu is shown #342

After setting alt_menu=true under [gui], keyboard shortcuts like Ctrl+L and Ctrl+M stop working. When I temporarily enable the menu by pressing Alt it works again, but that doesn't let me use Alt+arrows (since that also includes alt?).
Is this normal behaviour? And if so, is there a way to disable it?
