Hi there. The problem with this theme is very simple. You didn't add to the Emerald-Dark the white icons you find in breeze-dark/places. See for yourself the effect I get when I copy that folder to your Emerald folder:

Here are your icons. They are dark:

Please note how in the sidebar of nemo the white icons look so much better. I simply replaced the Emerald/places with breeze-dark/places. I know not the best way but it worked anyway. I did it as a test.
Your theme is actually the last thing I would need myself to finally upgrade to Linux Mint 18. I just need a nice set of icons. And yours are almost perfect. I would use the breeze set if it displayed nicely, but it doesn't. The folder icons and other icons are huge for some reason.

Also in the settings many icons are "shared". You can see it here:

You can use script 1 from: https://github.com/erikdubois/Arc-Theme-Colora to easily change the colors or copy paste the breeze dark ones.
