Encoding a € sign will cause the INVALID_CHARACTER_ERR

Consider using escape and unescape.

See "Unicode Strings" at https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/WindowBase64/btoa

Might want to check out these too in case the above can not be used:
