Phasing out Zed Legacy themes

Tomorrow (Wednesday, Feb 12, 2025) we'll be merging #24589 removing a number of themes we are designating as legacy and won't continue to support. This will likely come to stable 2 weeks after that date.

This will allow the team to better focus on the quality of the remaining internal themes, and allow the original authors of those themes to publish official versions of their theme's zed ports with less confusion.

Which themes are affected?

• the Andromeda theme
• the Atelier family
• the Ayu family (this one isn't in the extension yet, will be added soon)
• the Rosé Pine family
• the Sandcastle theme
• the Solarized family
• the Summercamp theme

How can I continue using one of these themes?

You can install the Zed Legacy Themes extension from today! Installing earlier means you will have no disruption if you want to continue using one of these themes.

Once you install the extension, look for the Zed Legacy variant of the theme you want to keep using.

Can I fork on of these themes?

Sure! We carried each theme's original license forward, so as long as you do the same you should have no issues creating your own versions any of these themes. You can find the extension here: https://github.com/zed-extensions/legacy-themes
