I think it is good to code sign the binaries. Authenticode signing would be the best so people can verify that the binaries are from official.

AFAIK SignPath provides free authenticode cert to open source projects, you can apply it here: https://signpath.org/apply
OSS projects which are already using SignPath: https://signpath.org/projects
