Elem-War is a match 4 tile based android game. I created this using libGdx, a Java framework. One gets to control a spaceship in order to win over an approaching set of tile army. The entire game including animations, algorithm, etc was developed by me. It has been a wonderful experience while developing this game.
Game begins with an initial set of tiles to which new tile rows are added as the level progresses. In this game the player controls a spaceship to draw/shoot tiles from/to an approaching tile set and make a match of 4 or more tiles of same category. The spaceship comes with an additional power which when activated allows the player to shoot projectiles to the tiles to destroy them. To successfully complete a level the player will have to destroy a given number of tiles. The player loses if the tiles manage to reach at the bottom of the screen or if they touch the spaceship.
- Swipe down – To draw in tiles from tile set. Player can only draw in tiles belonging to same category.
- Swipe up – To shoot back the stack of tiles the spaceship drew in.
- Both swipe up and swipe down movements implicitly moves the spaceship in the desired position.
- Player can also move the spaceship without performing any other action simply by touching down on the desired position.
- In power mode each touch down event will shoot projectiles from the spaceship.
- This game works in a 800*480 screen. I’ll be improving the UI and the screen to game world mapping code to make this game work in other screen sizes as well.
- Due to heavy asset loading and a few bug, the game sometimes freezes. Garbage collection’s impact on the gameplay experience was taken care of.
- This was the first game I created and that too in a span of two weeks. The main reason behind this was to learn about the basics of game development and I learnt a lot about software development with just this one app. Clearly there's no concept of "levels" in the game as of now. If you like an infinite running game, you've a treat.
- As of now I'm busy on other projects so this one is on stand still. If you want you can contribute to it though. :D.
