What is Drop?

Drop's aim is to provide a very easy to use file sharing solution for the local network while keeping speed and security in mind. The name "Drop" is used for two different things, the application for desktop integration and it's underlying protocol.

It's simplicity and user-friendliness is defined in three ways:

  • Make the user interface really easy understandable (Grab some ideas from the elementary HIG)
  • Make the application looking as native as possible on every platform by using native tools and APIs of the corresponding desktop environment
  • Make a transmission needing as less clicks as possible (e.g. search for transmission partners in the network automatically)

Some of the features the drop protocol provides are:

  • Automatically detect transmission partners on the local network
  • Secure TLS encryption of the whole communication
  • High transmission speed (depending on your bandwith and hard drive)
  • Send multiple files at once
  • It's under the receiver's control which files will be accepted
