EPIAHackers - About Us

EPIAHackers

Welcome to EPIAHackers!

We are a dynamic group of students who embarked on the thrilling journey of participating in a hackathon and discovered a shared passion for innovation and collaboration. What started as a singular adventure evolved into a close-knit team that continues to explore the exciting world of hackathons.

Our Story

As a group of enthusiastic learners, we decided to challenge ourselves and participate in a hackathon, drawn by the promise of problem-solving, creativity, and the chance to build something extraordinary. Little did we know that this initial experience would spark a fire within us, leading to the formation of EPIAHackers.

Why EPIAHackers?

EPIAHackers was born out of the incredible bond we forged during that first hackathon. We not only enjoyed the challenges and late-night coding sessions but also found joy in working together towards a common goal. The synergy among us was undeniable, and it fueled our decision to continue participating in hackathons as a team.

Our Mission

Our mission is to explore, innovate, and push the boundaries of what we can achieve collectively. We believe in the power of collaboration, creativity, and continuous learning. Through our experiences in hackathons, we aim to not only develop technical skills but also foster a sense of camaraderie and teamwork.

    1. Vueling: Flight Fest HACKUPC 2023

    Inspiration

The project aimed to enhance the in-flight experience by providing an entertainment and communication platform that operates without an internet connection.

    What it does

Vueling: Flight Fest allows passengers to connect, play, share information about their flight destination, and engage in collaborative activities. It is compatible with smartphones and laptops, offering an offline experience.

    How we built it

Utilizing React for the UI, styled-components for styling, TypeScript for frontend development, and Python with Flask for backend real-time communication. Integration of weather API and OpenAI API added real-time weather information and generated engaging content.

    Challenges

Creating an engaging user experience without compromising functionality and integrating multiple technologies were significant challenges.

    Accomplishments

Proudly created a seamless in-flight entertainment platform with integrated technologies, providing a unique experience for passengers.

    What we learned

Learned about integrating technologies for a cohesive user experience and honed teamwork skills to overcome challenges.

    What's next

Excited to continue developing Vueling: Flight Fest, incorporating user feedback, and adding features like chat between passengers and peer-to-peer communication.

    2. HackUpcBot

    Inspiration

The project aimed to simplify note management for students, offering an application to store and retrieve notes efficiently.

    What it does

Users can create categories and upload PDF files for each category, enabling easy access to information. For instance, a "History" category might contain a PDF file on Queen Elizabeth.

    How we built it

Backend development used Django (API-REST), and the frontend was developed using Next.js.

    Challenges

Challenges included data processing difficulties and linking the backend with the frontend.

    Accomplishments

Proud of creating an application aligning with the initial vision, with plans for future improvements.

    What we learned

Gained knowledge in creating RESTful APIs and valuable experience with modern development tools.

    What's next

Plan to continue improving the application and scaling it as necessary.

    Built With

    Django, Next.js, Azure, OpenAI
