One of the key strategies of the mod is determining whether your base will be resupplied externally or provide for its own needs by manufacturing resources.

There are different parts that can convert one or more resources into other resources. All of them require ⚡ElectricCharge and ⚙️Machinery. The larger parts are more efficient at the conversions, but require more ⚡ElectricCharge and ⚙️Machinery. Some of the conversion chains require resources that are minable while others must be manufactured. Most parts have converters that only produce a single resource, but two, the Tundra Recycling Plant and Tundra Assembly Plant, can produce more than one resource at a time.

ElectricCharge is a special case in that it is stock resource. MKS provides parts dedicated specifically to managing the resource chain for its reactors.

The sections below show the parts that can produce each resource. The tables list for each converter the required ⚡ElectricCharge, ⚙️Machinery, input resources, and output resource required per hour, along with their efficiency, calculated as the amount of output resource divided by the sum of the input resources.

For example, Ranger Portable Smelter converts 6.48 Substrate into 0.26 Chemicals per hour

0.26 / 6.48 = 4%

As another example, the Tundra Assembly plant uses 17.82 Organics, 5.94 SpecializedParts, and 5.94 MaterialKits to produce 29.7 ColonySupplies

17.82 + 5.94 + 5.94 = 29.7 resources input

29.7 output / 29.7 input = 100%
