Moodle oEmbed Filter will turn URLs to supported websites into embedded content within your Moodle.

Instead of sending students to YouTube or Vimeo to watch a video the link will be detected and the video inserted into your Moodle page instead.

The main purpose of this filter is to make it easy for teachers to insert content without having to worry about knowing html embed codes. Another benefit is that students are less likely to get distracted by other content on the external website such as music videos or film trailers.

The filter uses oEmbed to request correct embed codes from the website and then uses the supplied code to embed the video. See http://oembed.com/ for more details of how this works.

Another feature of this filter is that where the external site supplies thumbnails of the content these are use to allow "Lazy" loading, where the video is not downloaded until the student presses the play button. Lazy loading speeds up page load speeds and reduces bandwidth.
