Motivation and context:

Briefly describe the dataset. What is it, and why do we want to archive it regularly?
The United States Wind Turbine Database (USWTDB) provides the locations of land-based and offshore wind turbines in the United States, corresponding wind project information, and turbine technical specifications.

Include a link to the dataset webpage and any metadata documentation.

Notes/Quirks

  • Most recent and legacy versions: The most recent version is on the here, but there are many versions stored here. Ideally we'd archive it all! Which would require doing a special grab of the most recent version.
  • Publishing cadence (aka partitions): this dataset has been published quarterly-ish since 2018.
  • Link pattern: Zip files for each version. It looks like sometime within the first month of the quarter (01/04/07/10) they publish the data. the file names include full dates of when it was published. Also the _v{*} looks like it gets updated each year.

Requirements for archiving

To be archived on Zenodo, a dataset must be:

  • published under an open license that permits reuse and redistribution
  • less than 50Gb in size (when zipped)
  • relevant to energy modelling and research

Checklist for archive creation
