- **state token**: a 32-byte array
- **message name hash**: the first 8-bytes of the SHA256 hash of the message name, which can be used for simplified routing
- **gas limit**: an unsigned 64-bit integer
- **input param space**: 32 bytes which may be used as input parameters message handlers choose
- **output param space**: 32 bytes which may be used as output parameters message handlers choose
- **input data pointer 1**: 16 bytes, see below for the **data pointer** spec
- **input data pointer 2**: 16 bytes
- **output data pointer 1**: 16 bytes
- **output data pointer 2**: 16 bytes
- remaining 96 bytes: reserved for future use, should be zeroed when a packet is initialized
- remaining bytes: reserved for future use, should be zeroed when a packet is initialized

The minimum size allocated for a **message packet** is thus 512 bytes,
but larger packets may be allocated so that data pointers can point to memory within the same packet.
The actual packet size always be passed as a parameter to invoke entry points in the hypervisor and virtual machines.
