first of all thanks to all the language contributors on Crowdin.
For v2.7 we plan to start merging translations contributed via Crowdin into this repository.
In the main branch, and therefore in the upcoming v2.7, translations are disabled by default, so we can accept even potentially low-quality translations and warn our users to check carefully before enabling them.
None of our commercial users have expressed the need to localize the WebAdmin and WebClient UI, on the contrary some of our customers do not like having the language selector introduced in v2.6 and would like only English as it was in previous versions. This is another reason why localizations will be disabled by default.
We still believe that localizations are useful for both commercial and community users.
In any case, before merging translation files, we must at least check that they do not contain offensive or inappropriate words.
We cannot blindly trust anonymous contributors.
We tried to do this check using AI, but the results were not satisfactory so we need to manually check each string with the help of a translation software, this is a lot of work for the first time merge.
We have made SFTPGo available to everyone anywhere in the world and we like that, but we are also a company and SFTPGo is also a commercial product. Before investing our time/money we need to carefully evaluate the potential business opportunities and risks: merging a translation that could potentially contain inappropriate and/or offensive words is a risk we cannot take.
We will try to merge as many localizations as possible, assuming they are complete or nearly so in Crowdin, and we are sure you will understand if we delay your country localization to v2.8 or a later version. Thank you.
