#CityZEN

CityZen is an idea of an open system that was developed to help municipalities support creative unemployed people to gain some extra income, by selling their creations.

The system consists of three levels:

  1. The bench

The bench is the basic unit of the idea and is designed to enable its user to showcase different types of products. Main characteristics of this unit are

    • Its ability to be personalised by the users and help optimize the way different products can be displayed.
    • Low cost
    • Local production
    • The easy replacement of damaged parts

Pressing the title will open the folder with the 3d model and the source files that will enable you to reproduce specific modules, along with the detailed documentations that describe the way the sub-elements need to be assembled.

  2. The cash register

The cash register enables the curation of the system, reassuring the correct use by all involved parties (municipality and user). It consists of a custom Atmega-2560 based electronics system that interfaces with the user using a custom keyboard and a small TFT screen. Data is saved on an SD card and is then transferred manually to the web service described in the section below.

In the folder linked in the title of this section, you can find the design of the PCB together with a sample program source code for the Atmega-2560 and some further notes on the parts used and their assembly.

  3. The service description

In this specific project, additionally to the design of the construction for product showcasing, the design of the infrastructure required to support the system was envisioned. More specifically, in the folder that is linked to the title of this section, a description of how the proposed system could function within the municipality is illustrated in a storyboard. Furthermore, the proposed interaction (which consist of two parts: the webservice and the cash register screen) is described. In the folder the designs of the two interfaces and the description of their contribution to the system can be found .
