IMPORTANT: please forward this email to all .ml devs
Dear kewitz, piira and other devs,
In my opinion both http://www.popcorntime.ml and http://www.popcorn-time.is are a fork of the original popcorntime.io they just have a different view. The (bad) .is guys are more focused in building a real decentralized version (like Bitcoin to make sure it's technically impossible to shut it down). We are all working very hard trying to keep Popcorn Time alive.
The yify group is a well known underground movement and is operating several projects such as:
Why I am contacting you?
Well as you may have noticed, popcorntime.ml was taken down by the MPAA and it's down for more than 3 days now. Unfortunately they are not coming back, but the yify group (unrelated fork) has decided and is ready to to take over the whole .ml community, user base, repos and most importantly the developers.
I believe very sincerely that the .ml project is failing and needs a replacement. You can help to get the project trough the current issues and with yify's help we will bring this project forward. It's our mission to successfully take over, not just the .ml fork, but the whole movie streaming industry in the underground. (I am just talking about competitors, who operate in a gray area with this type of 'product')
Popcorntime was never build to be decentralized, so yes it can easily be shut down by authorities. It's our mission to change that. It's not enough to just build new APIs. We must use simple but powerful technologies like javascript, sqlite, indexdb and service workers to make it indestructible. Peer to peer is a great technology, but unfortunately a small group of rich corporations just hate it and would like to see it destroyed. It's against their business approach. I was shocked after I realized how much power MPPA & Co have on politcs and how they easily can shut down essential services like pt.
You may have many concerns I would like to kill with these arguments:
Regards
the YIFY group
