Frustratingly there doesn't appear to be any option to store the compiled Stan object in a non-temporary directory, looks like rstan is hard coded to either output to the same directory as the model for or tempdir() if it isn't writable. I was originally hoping to have a global option for users to set where to save the model so it can be re-used across multiple runs but this doesn't appear possible unless I do some shenanigans of copying the source code around.
