How to add new foundation members

Context and Problem Statement

The foundation members are important to how the foundation operates.
To make Progress with the foundation, the foundation members have to have enough time. Therefore, additional members might be required. Currently, the process of adding or suggesting new members is not clear.

Decision Drivers

  • The process should be transparent to the outside as transparency is one of our mission goals
  • Currently, there is no documented process
  • To become more inclusive, potentially outside applications should be possible as well
  • We need a very active group of foundation members. Otherwise, we will not make progress

Considered Options

{title of option 1}

  • Good, because {argument a}
  • Good, because {argument b}
  • Neutral, because {argument c}
  • Bad, because {argument d}

  • members are typically expected to "maintain" one of the MP core codes (this does not imply that the member has to be an official maintainer but can also mean that they respond to issues/submit frequent PRs)
  • new members need to be suggested by a current MP foundation member
  • current members can also enable substitutes for one or more meetings with the same voting rights

(@tschaume @yang-ruoxi did I miss a point?)
