Hello, Thanks for the work!

It would be good if the license type would be stated in setup.py, so that automatic license checkers (e.g. https://pypi.org/project/liccheck/) have access to it.

That would indeed be a nice addition, thanks for noticing it. It will be added to the next release.

May I suggest to go with the new way to package Python module ?
See https://setuptools.pypa.io/en/latest/userguide/quickstart.html
It will be also a good way to simplify how we handle dependencies.
