hi there. I am interested in the political (economy) of data and how data (science) can be used to uncover structural inequalities. Before turning to journalism I worked as a reasearcher at the Free University of Berlin and taught a class on Critical Data Science. I hold an MA in Political Science from FU Berlin and a MA in International Security from Sciences Po Paris.
You can find my website here.
Some stories I published this year include:
- Berlin's Missing Teachers. Berlin has an educational crisis. But are all students affected equally? I scraped data for public schools in Berlin and showed how the lack of teachers overproportionally affetcs poor neighbourhoods. Interactive map and longread. In German.
- Kita Notstand. Not only public schools, but also the German pre-school system is in crisis. According to a recent study, more than 380.000 spots are missing and the system is short of roughly 100.000 educators. We surveyed more than 6.800 teachers and parents. They paint a dire picture of a collapsing system. Longread and project site. In German.
- Demo Atlas. We analyzed years and years of data on all demonstrations that took place in Berlin. Map and analysis. In German.
