# Case: Letters from Camilla Collett
The National Library of Norway (NB) has approximately 1.000 letters written by the Norwegian author Camilla Collett (1813–1895) in its manuscript collection. More than half of these letters have never been published. Collett’s handwriting is difficult to read, so there has been little research on them, and the library wants to make the letters more available by transcribing, encoding and publishing them. One of the publications is a digital edition containing approximately 50 letters written by Collett in the years 1841-1851. The edition is part of the library’s source edition series NB kilder, published on the e-book website Bokselskap: [http://www.bokselskap.no/boker/collettbrev1841_51/tittelside](http://www.bokselskap.no/boker/collettbrev1841_51/tittelside)

# Case: Letters to and from Edvard Munch
## About | ||
The Munch Museum has in its manuscript collection approximately 3.000 letters and letter drafts written by Edvard Munch (1863–1944) and some 5.800 letters addressed to him. Some correspondences and a selection of the family letters have been published in printed editions, but most letters had never been published before the museum began making them digitally available – by transcribing, encoding and publishing them – at the digital archive for Edvard Munch's Writings, [emunch.no](https://emunch.no/welcome.xhtml).

# Case: Letters to and from Ivar Kleiven and Kristian Prestgard
## About | ||
The Local History Wiki, one of the websites of the National Library of Norway, has published 178 letters to and from Ivar Kleiven (1854-1934), a historian from Vågå in Oppland, and Kristian Prestgard (1866-1946), a journalist from Heidal in the same county. The collection of letters first appeared in print in "Heime og ute", edited by Gudmund Harildstad and Kristoffer Kruken and published by Novus forlag in 2017.
Kleiven and Prestgard met as students at Telemark Folkehøgskule 1885–86. As adults Kleiven lived in Vågå, whereas Prestgard in 1893 emigrated to the United States, where he edited the Norwegian language newspaper Decorah-Posten for nearly 50 years. The letters between Kleiven and Prestgard provide valuable information on issues, agents and networks within the Norwegian national democratic movement, political and cultural, with a special focus on the language question – the substitution of the predominating Danish-Norwegian by a more genuinely Norwegian written language (nynorsk).

# Case: Letters from Norway
## About | ||
The Local History Wiki, one of the websites of the National Library of Norway, has published 84 Norwegian letters from the period 1840-1960. The letters are part of a collection of more than 3000 private letters sent to emigrants from friends and relatives in different parts of Norway. Most of the emigrants settled in the United States, but some letters have recipients in Canada, South Africa, Scotland and Sweden. 150 letters from the collection appeared in print in "Brev hjemmefra", edited by Else Braut and Ragnhild Holden Hoff and published by Solum forlag in 1997. In addition some individual letters have been published in local history yearbooks. But the majority of the letters has never been published.
