# Slurm-web

🚧 **Slurm-web is still under active development. Stable release is planned soon.** 🚧

## Overview

Slurm-web is an open source web interface to [Slurm](https://slurm.schedmd.com/)
based HPC supercomputers. It provides intuitive views of current jobs and nodes
states. The organization of this project is being reworked significantly, see
the [next section](#plan-for-future) for more details.

Slurm-web is an open source web dashboard for Slurm based HPC clusters.

[Slurm](https://slurm.schedmd.com/) is the world leading workload manager for
HPC clusters with all most advanced features to manage jobs and resources
efficiently with a powerful command-line interface (CLI).

Slurm-web provides a clear graphical user interface with views to track your
jobs, intuitive insights and advanced visualizations on top of Slurm to monitor
status of HPC supercomputers in your organization, in a web browser on all your
devices.

Many features in a reactive & responsive web UI:

## Plan for future
* Instant jobs filtering and sorting
* Live jobs status update
* Advanced visualization of node status with racking topology
* Intuitive visualization of QOS and advanced reservations
* Multi-clusters support
* LDAP authentication
* Advanced RBAC permissions management
* Transparent caching

After years of initial investments from [EDF](https://www.edf.fr/en) leading to
version 2.x, the project is now endorsed by [Rackslab](https://rackslab.io)
which becomes its new official maintainer.

[Slurm-web advanced features overview](https://docs.rackslab.io/slurm-web/overview/overview.html).

The goal is to build the reference open source web interface for Slurm. A new
ambitious roadmap has been defined with long-term vision about this project,
starting with version 3.0 coming later this year.
## Quickstart

In addition to the current feature set offered by Slurm-web, the following new
features are planned:
To install and start using Slurm-web in a few steps, follow the
[quickstart guide](https://docs.rackslab.io/slurm-web/install/quickstart.html)!
Packages are available for most Linux distributions for easy installation and
upgrade.

- Real time updates of the dashboard
- Accounting reports and views on past jobs
- Built-in metrics about jobs and scheduling
- Job submission and inspection
- Significantly improved Gantt view
- QOS, associations and reservations management
- Native RPM/deb packages and containers for easy deployment on most Linux distributions
## Documentation

The software architecture will be reviewed with modern established technologies
and based on reference slurmrestd API.
The [full documentation](https://docs.rackslab.io/slurm-web/) of Slurm-web is
available online with software architecture details, installation guide,
configuration references, troubleshooting guide, etc.

You are more than welcome to discuss about it there, ask questions and give
comments!
## Status

This `main` branch will quickly contain the next version 3.0 of Slurm-web under
development. The source code of the previous versions has been moved in `2.x`
branch.
Slurm-web is considered stable and ready for production.

## FAQ
## Authors

### Does Rackslab maintain and support previous versions 2.x?
Slurm-web is developed and maintained by [Rackslab](https://rackslab.io),
software editor of open source solutions designed to help HPC supercomputers
administration, operations and management.

Our primary focus is to develop the feature release 3.0 with new modern and
solid foundations, for faster development of the envisioned features, more
reliably and flexibility. Unfortunately, we don't have the manpower to maintain
and support the previous 2.x releases. If any community member is willing to
participate on this, feel free to open pull requests, we will be more than happy
to merge your contributions!
## Support

### Where is the source code of the previous versions?
Need help to deploy or setup Slurm-web? There are multiple ways to get technical
support.

The source code of the previous version has been moved in `2.x` branch. This
`main` branch will contain the future version 3.0 under development.
### Community

### Will Slurm-web stay free software?
Multiple community channels are available to ask questions:

The licence of Slurm-web source code will not change, it will remain free
software (as in beer and as in speech) released under the terms of GPLv3.
Rackslab strongly believes in free software values and is deeply committed in
this regard.
* **Matrix Chat** [#slurm-web:talk.rackslab.io](https://matrix.to/#/#slurm-web:talk.rackslab.io):
instant messaging for quick feedback and help.

### Will you charge for software licences?
> [!NOTE]
> A [Matrix account](https://matrix.org/docs/chat_basics/matrix-for-im/#creating-a-matrix-account)
> is required to access the chat room. It can be created in few steps on any
> Matrix network public provider such as [matrix.org](https://matrix.org) or
> [gitter.im](https://gitter.im/#apps).
No, you will still be able to install Slurm-web for free (as in beer). See our
[business model](#what-is-your-business-model) for more details.
* [**GitHub Discussions Q&A**](https://github.com/rackslab/slurm-web/discussions/categories/q-a):
post your questions with more context and details for more in-depth answers.

### Will you release full entreprise versions vs limited community versions (aka. freemium model) ?
This support is provided by the community with best-effort participation of
Rackslab team. Please mind that people might not be available to answer your
questions.

No, there will be only one fully-featured version of Slurm-web free for
everyone. See our [business model](#what-is-your-business-model) for more
details.
### Professional

### What is your business model?
