While I appreciate that the legacy dialogue around atomic swaps has been between chains, I respectfully submit that this is only because there's never before been a global ledger that could accurately account for a variety of assets in any meaningfully-scalable way. Swaps being "automatically cancelled" is a bit of a mathematical abstraction, but I can't think of another way to explain it simply. src: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=193281.0
